About the event

Recent supply chain issues for oil and gas, increased electrification and the development of data centres impose new system pressures and demands on Ireland’s energy supply. Greater deployment of wind energy development could offer increased energy security, however meeting these energy demands is challenging in part due to the intermittent nature of power generation from renewable sources. Some solutions to intermittency issues from renewables include increased trade, storage and demand side management, but what are the preferences of the public in Ireland for these options?

In this workshop, we present recent findings from an SEAI funded study, carried out by our Wind Energy Research team in NUIG, to establish public preferences for wind energy trade and intermittency management. This project gathered feedback from over 1000 public participants across Ireland in late 2020 and established preferences for wind energy battery storage, trade and price alerts.

This event aims to gather feedback from the industry and policymakers on potential barriers and solutions to public acceptance issues.

Presentations will be made by Dr. Thomas van Rensburg, Senior Lecturer in NUIG (Project Lead) as well as Dr. Noreen Brennan, Post-Doctoral Researcher in NUIG (Principal Investigator).

This event targets the wind energy and energy storage sector as well as policymakers and planners.
